The President of the United States of America takes pleasure in presenting the Bronze Star Medal with Combat “V” to Corporal William Sherrill Green (ASN: US-14214488), United States Army, for heroic achievement as a member of Company L, 38th Infantry Regiment, 2d Infantry Division, in action against an armed enemy on 29 July 1951 in the vicinity of Taeusan, Korea. On that date, during an assault upon enemy positions, Company L was pinned down by intense enemy artillery fire. Corporal Green noticed that a comrade had been wounded and was in a position exposed to artillery fire. Immediately leaving the safety of his position, Corporal Green moved over open terrain, under enemy fire, to the aid of his fallen comrade. He administered first aid and carried the wounded man back to a position of safety. The heroism in action displayed by Corporal Green reflects great credit upon himself and the military service.

    The President of the United States of America, authorized by Act of Congress July 9, 1918, takes pride in presenting the Silver Star (Posthumously) to Sergeant First Class William Sherrill Green (ASN: US-14214488), United States Army, for gallantry in action as a member of Company L, 38th Infantry Regiment, 2d Infantry Division, in action against an armed enemy on 12 January 1952 in the vicinity of Ponggil-li, Korea. On that date, during an assault on enemy positions, Sergeant Green, completely disregarding all danger to his own life, exposed himself to the murderous blaze of enemy fire and, using only an automatic carbine, placed fire on the enemy enabling his comrades to reach safe positions. Only after the last man had reached safety did Sergeant Green start to rejoin them. As he withdrew he was killed by an enemy grenade. The gallantry in action and selfless devotion to duty and his comrades displayed by Sergeant Green reflect great credit upon himself and the military service.
