Headquarters, 3d Infantry Division, General Orders No. 29 (January 30, 1951)

The President of the United States of America, authorized by Act of Congress July 9, 1918, takes pleasure in presenting the Silver Star to Private First Class Oliver L. Green (ASN: RA-14348493), United States Army, for gallantry in action as a member of Company D, 1st Battalion, 7th Infantry Regiment, 3d Infantry Division, in action against an armed enemy in Korea. On 28 November 1950 near Sackang-ni, Korea, while his unit was under heavy attack by a large enemy force. Private Green engaged in a fire fight with five enemy soldiers who were trying to enter a command post. He drove them away, killing or wounding three of them. Later he voluntarily exposed himself to enemy fire in order to drive off another attacking party. Private Green remained at his post in the face of heavy enemy mortar fire, and materially aided in the defeat of the enemy attack. Private Green’s courage, utter disregard for his own personal safety, and exemplary conduct under enemy fire reflects great credit upon himself and the military service.
