The President of the United States of America, authorized by Act of Congress July 9, 1918, takes pleasure in presenting the Silver Star to Sergeant Francis B. Green (ASN: RA-19308402), United States Army, for gallantry in action as a member of Company F, 23d Infantry Regiment, 2d Infantry Division, in action against an armed enemy on 6 September 1950, in the vicinity of Changnyong, Korea. Sergeant Green was a forward observer for a mortar platoon under attack by a numerically superior enemy force. When his radio was disabled early in the action, he attempted to join the advance elements of the platoon. In spite of the severe wounds which he received as he moved forward, he continued to advance under intense enemy fire. By exposing himself to the enemy fire, he drew that fire away from other troops, enabling them to advance and secure their objective. The gallant conduct displayed by Sergeant Green reflects great credit upon himself and the military service.
