Headquarters, U.S. Forces, European Theater, General Orders No. 46 (March 29, 1945)

The President of the United States of America, authorized by Act of Congress July 9, 1918, takes pleasure in presenting the Silver Star to Sous-Lieutenant Raymonde Granger, French Army, for gallantry in action behind the enemy lines from 20 March 1944 to 15 August 1944. Sous-Lieutenant Granger joined the “Pathfinder” mission in France and served as a liaison agent between the original “Pathfinders” and individual “Sussex” teams. Since she traveled widely, convoying secret agents who had just arrived from England. She also transported highly compromising radio equipment and arms by railroad and by bicycle. On many occasions, if her luggage had been opened by the Gestapo or the French Milice, it would have meant torture and death for her. After the liberation of Le Mans, she fearlessly penetrated enemy-occupied territory in an attempt to save the lives of six allied agents.
