(Citation Needed) – SYNOPSIS: Private First Class Thomas E. Gossage, United States Army, was awarded the Silver Star for gallantry in action as a member of a volunteer gun crew at the Dobodura, New Guinea, Air Strip in the Pacific Theater of Operations during World War II. Under a strafing attack by low-flying enemy planes Private First Class Gossage maintained a steam of fire, thus affording the only protection for troops, grounded planes and evacuated casualties on the strip at the time. His gallant actions and dedicated devotion to duty, without regard for his own life, were in keeping with the highest traditions of military service and reflect great credit upon himself, his unit, and the United States Army.
