The President of the United States of America, authorized by Act of Congress July 9, 1918, takes pride in presenting the Silver Star (Posthumously) to Private First Class George L. Gordon (ASN: ER-13221758), United States Army, for gallantry in action as a member of Company E, 23d Infantry Regiment, 2d Infantry Division, in action against an armed enemy on 8 March 1951, in the vicinity of Yangjimal, Korea. Company E had the mission of attacking and securing an enemy-held hill. Private Gordon’s platoon had advanced to within reach of the objective when it exhausted its supply of ammunition. Although the rear area was under heavy enemy mortar and small arms fire, Private Gordon voluntarily made repeated trips to replenish the ammunition supply. On one of these trips he noticed several wounded comrades. After applying first aid to those men, he carried one of the wounded men to the Company Command Post from which he could be evacuated to an aid station. He then led litter bearers back through the hail of enemy fire to evacuate the remaining wounded men. The gallant conduct and devotion to his fallen comrades displayed by Private Gordon reflect great credit upon himself and the military service.
