(Citation Needed) – SYNOPSIS: The President of the United States of America, authorized by Act of Congress July 9, 1918, takes pleasure in presenting the Silver Star to Captain (Medical Corps Edward Olin Goodrich, Jr., United States Army, for conspicuous gallantry and intrepidity in action against the enemy while serving with the 25th Infantry Division in Korea during a fierce battle 27 November 1950, near the Chosin Reservoir in Changjin County, North Korea, Captain Goodrich treated and then helped evacuate wounded American Marines and soldiers as the Chinese Ninth Army pressed to within 20 yards of their position. He refused to leave his patients and repeatedly exposed himself to small arms fire as he continued to administer to their needs. His gallant actions and dedicated devotion to duty, without regard for his own life, were in keeping with the highest traditions of military service and reflect great credit upon himself, his unit, and the United States Army.
