The President of the United States of America, authorized by Act of Congress July 9, 1918, takes pleasure in presenting the Silver Star to Captain (Infantry) Abraham Gomez (ASN: 0-444110), United States Army, for gallantry in action while serving with Company L, 32d Infantry Regiment, 7th Infantry Division, in action against the enemy near Sokkogae, Korea. On 11 July 1953, Captain Gomez was given the mission of counterattacking a strategic outpost in an attempt to re-secure positions which had recently been lost to the enemy. Captain Gomez and his men reached the personnel carrier landing and from there he moved through heavy enemy artillery fire. When his forward elements were pinned down by enemy fire, Captain Gomez advanced to that area and directed the action from the forefront of the battle. It was at this time that Captain Gomez was wounded but he refused medical treatment and directed the reorganization of the unit. Then, Captain Gomez made certain of the treatment and evacuation of the friendly wounded and continued his reconnaissance of the friendly positions. The gallantry displayed by Captain Gomez reflects great credit on himself and is in keeping with the highest traditions of the military service.
