The President of the United States of America, authorized by Act of Congress July 9, 1918, takes pleasure in presenting the Silver Star to Corporal Lawrence U. Glover (ASN: RA-13271646), United States Army, for gallantry in action as a member of Headquarters and Headquarters Battery, 503d Field Artillery Battalion, 2d Infantry Division, in action against an armed enemy on 30 November 1950, in the vicinity of Kunu-ri, Korea. Corporal Glover’s battalion was withdrawing through a series of hostile fire blocks in order to avoid envelopment of a numerically superior enemy. His portion of the convoy was halted by intense enemy mortar, machine gun and automatic weapons fire and the personnel had dismounted to seek cover in the ditches along the road. In this position, they were pinned down by deadly and accurate fire from two well-emplaced enemy machine guns. Corporal Glover, with complete indifference for his personal safety, left his cover and dashed to a halted vehicle. Amidst a hail of enemy fire, he manned a machine gun mounted on the truck, engaging the enemy and destroying both machine guns and their crews. Although wounded by mortar fragments, he continued to fire coolly and courageously at the onrushing enemy, holding them at bay and thereby allowing his pinned-down comrades to mount their vehicles and continue the withdrawal. The gallantry displayed by Corporal Glover was an inspiration to his entire organization and reflects the highest great upon himself is in keeping with the fine traditions of the military service.
