The President of the United States of America, authorized by Act of Congress July 9, 1918, takes pleasure in presenting the Silver Star to Corporal Albin L. Gleeten (ASN: 37114235), United States Army, for gallantry in action while serving with the 129th Infantry Regiment, 37th Infantry Division, in action against the enemy at Bougainville, Solomon Islands, on 15 March 1944. Corporal Gleeten undertook the hazardous task of laying telephone wire from the battalion command post to an anti-tank gun position and successfully accomplished his mission although subjected to intense hostile small arms fire. Despite wounds, he later left the comparative safety of the gun position to crawl into the open to repair the wire which was torn by mortar shells. His courage and devotion to duty were responsible for establishing vital communication which aided materially in eventual repulse of the enemy. The gallant actions and dedicated devotion to duty demonstrated by Corporal Gleeten, without regard for his own life, were in keeping with the highest traditions of military service and reflect great credit upon himself and the United States Army.
