The President of the United States of America, authorized by Act of Congress July 9, 1918, takes pleasure in presenting the Silver Star to Sergeant First Class George H. Glassman (ASN: RA-33735035), United States Army, for gallantry in action as a member of Company K, 23d Infantry Regiment, 2d Infantry Division, in action against an armed enemy on 14 February 1951 in the vicinity of Chipyong-ni, Korea. Under cover of heavy artillery and mortar fire the enemy launched a savage attack upon Company K. At the height of the battle Sergeant Glassman left his foxhole and moved about his defensive perimeter, distributing ammunition and encouraging his men to stand fast. When he was informed that the left flank of his platoon had been penetrated by the enemy, he fearlessly advanced to the gap in the line and single-handedly charged the enemy, killing three of them with hand grenades and dispersing the remainder. He then assumed a position on the flank and engaged the enemy with rifle fire until the attack had been repelled. the gallantry displayed by Sergeant Glassman reflects the highest great upon himself is in keeping with the fine traditions of the military service.
