The President of the United States of America, authorized by Act of Congress, July 9, 1918, takes pride in presenting the Distinguished Service Cross (Posthumously) to Private Lucien L. Arsenault (ASN: 67164), United States Army, for extraordinary heroism in action while serving with Company B, 103d Infantry Regiment, 26th Division, American Expeditionary Forces, near Torcy, France, 18 July 1918. When he declined to leave his platoon for treatment, though severely wounded in the leg by machine-gun fire, continuing with the advance of his platoon, Private Arsenault was again wounded and again refused to go to the rear, but continued with the assaulting line until he received a third wound, which caused instantaneous death. His high courage, unselfish devotion to duty, and utter disregard for his own safety, raised the morale of his company to a high pitch and spurred them on to great endeavors.
