Arnold (ASN: 43957), United States Army, for extraordinary heroism in action while serving with Company I, 16th Infantry Regiment, 1st Division, American Expeditionary Forces, near Exermont, France, 4 October 1918. Private Arnold, while passing through an enemy machine-gun barrage, located an enemy machine-gun position. He single-handedly rushed the position, captured the gun, and forced the crew to surrender.
