The President of the United States of America, authorized by Act of Congress July 9, 1918, takes pleasure in presenting the Silver Star to Sergeant Dale L. Geise (ASN: US-55051000), United States Army, for gallantry in action as a member of Company K, 3d Battalion, 15th Infantry Regiment, 3d Infantry Division, in action against an armed enemy in Korea. On 15 August 1952, two platoons of Company K were assigned the mission of securing an enemy-occupied hill in the vicinity of Chokko-ri, Korea. The first platoon launched an attack and advanced to the top of the hill. Shortly after the second platoon, of which Sergeant Geise was a member, together with the first platoon, succeeded in driving the enemy to the reverse slope. The enemy mortar fire and the hostile forces were threatening to block the friendly assault elements from the remainder of the units. With their ammunition becoming exhausted, the withdrawal of the friendly units became necessary. At this time Sergeant Geise gathered over twenty magazines of automatic rifle ammunition, voluntarily remained behind in an exposed position and raked the hostile emplacements with grenade and automatic rifle fire until ordered to withdraw. He then hurled his remaining grenades upon the enemy and assisted in evacuating friendly casualties. Sergeant Geise was responsible for killing thirteen and wounding many more of the enemy. Sergeant Geise’s gallantry reflects great credit upon himself and the military service.
