The President of the United States of America, authorized by Act of Congress, July 9, 1918, takes pride in presenting the Distinguished Service Cross (Posthumously) to Private Frank Arkman (ASN: 1429432), United States Army, for extraordinary heroism in action while serving with Company L, 305th Infantry Regiment, 77th Division, American Expeditionary Forces, near Bois-de-la-Naza, France, 5 October 1918. With utter disregard for his personal safety, Private Arkman went forward with three other soldiers, in the face of heavy machine-gun and grenade fire, and brought back five seriously wounded men to a first-aid station. He displayed bravery, coolness, and good judgment in effecting the rescue.
