The President of the United States of America, authorized by Act of Congress July 9, 1918, takes pleasure in presenting the Silver Star to Sergeant First Class Reginald M. Garner (ASN: RA-28234106), United States Army, for gallantry in action as a member of Company G, 23d Infantry Regiment, 2d Infantry Division, in action against an armed enemy on 21 May 1951 in the vicinity of Pamnam-gol, Korea. The platoon commanded by Sergeant Garner was ordered to assault a hill occupied by a well-entrenched, numerically superior enemy force. When his unit was effectively pinned down by the intense enemy fire, Sergeant Garner, with complete disregard for his own safety, exposed himself to intense fire to charge an enemy machine gun emplacement, hurling grenades and firing his rifle until he succeeded in silencing the enemy position. The gallantry and inspirational leadership displayed by Sergeant Garner reflect great credit upon himself and uphold the highest traditions of the Military Service of the United States.
