The President of the United States of America, authorized by Act of Congress July 9, 1918, takes pleasure in presenting the Silver Star to First Lieutenant (Field Artillery) Frank R. Garner (ASN: 0-2209900), United States Army, for gallantry in action as a member of Battery B, 15th Field Artillery Battalion, 2d Infantry Division, in action against the enemy on 24 May 1951, in the vicinity of Taeyoch’ang, Korea. Company I, 9th Infantry Regiment, was advancing up Hill 800 when intense enemy fire forced it to withdraw and denied Lieutenant Garner the use of his observation post. Twice he returned to the post despite the enemy fire, to adjust artillery fire on the enemy. Though fully aware of the danger, he enabled friendly artillery to inflict numerous casualties on the enemy. The heroic actions of Lieutenant Garner reflect great credit upon himself and the military service.
