The President of the United States of America, authorized by Act of Congress July 9, 1918, takes pleasure in presenting the Silver Star to Corporal Arturo Garcia-Torres (ASN: RA-30408961), United States Army, for gallantry in action while serving with the 25th Infantry Division, in action against an armed enemy in Korea. On 19 October 1950, the company to which Corporal Garcia-Torres was attached as gunner of a 75-mm. recoilless rifle section was attacked by a large hostile force in the vicinity of Singi-dong, Korea. Corporal Garcia-Torres manned his gun and delivered effective fire until the infiltrating enemy attempted to overrun his position. He temporarily fought them off with his pistol until his assistant gunner was wounded. Then, with a carbine, he delivered such devastating fire upon the onrushing foe that he repulsed the attack, inflicted many casualties on the enemy and took twenty of them as prisoners. Corporal Garcia-Torres’ exemplary courage, steadfastness and selfless devotion to duty reflect great credit upon himself and uphold the highest traditions of the Military Service of the United States.
