The President of the United States of America, authorized by Act of Congress July 9, 1918, takes pride in presenting the Silver Star (Posthumously) to Private First Class Raul G. Garcia (ASN: RA-18353976), United States Army, for gallantry in action as a member of Company I, 3d Battalion, 35th Infantry Regiment, 25th Infantry Division, in action against an armed enemy in Korea. In a platoon attack on 17 September 1950, near Haman, Korea, Private First Class Garcia served as lead scout. When heavy enemy fire opened on the unit, he held his position delivering effective fire into the enemy force. Even when hand grenades were thrown into his area he maintained his post, continuing his determined action until he was killed. Private First Class Garcia’s gallant and inspiring devotion to duty reflects great credit upon himself and upheld the highest traditions of the United States Army.
