Headquarters, 25th Infantry Division, General Orders No. 53 (1950)

The President of the United States of America, authorized by Act of Congress July 9, 1918, takes pleasure in presenting the Silver Star to Second Lieutenant (Infantry) William F. Brockmeier (ASN: 0-57651), United States Army, for conspicuous gallantry and intrepidity as a member of Company B, 1st Battalion, 27th Infantry Regiment, 25th Infantry Division, in Korea. On 24 July 1950 near Yongam-ni, Korea, Lieutenant Brockmeier was in charge of the lead platoon of the battalion. During a five hour period his platoon was surrounded by enemy forces on three occasions. Although the platoon sustained fifty percent casualties, Lieutenant Brockmeier refused to withdraw and consistently exposed himself to intense enemy fire to reorganize his defense. Under his inspired leadership the platoon resisted the enemy attack. When, during the final stages of the engagement, Lieutenant Brockmeier was seriously wounded, he crawled down a hill without assistance to await evacuation. His gallant actions under extremely adverse conditions were in keeping with the highest traditions of the military service.
