The President of the United States of America, authorized by Act of Congress July 9, 1918, takes pleasure in presenting the Silver Star to Corporal Joe Galindo (ASN: US-56076965), United States Army, for gallantry in action as a member of Company G, 23d Infantry Regiment, 2d Infantry Division, in action against the enemy on 10 October 1951 in the vicinity of Mundong-ni, Korea. On that date during an assault upon well-fortified enemy positions, Corporal Galindo’s unit was subjected to intense hostile small arms and automatic weapons fire from a strategically placed position. Corporal Galindo, with complete disregard for his personal safety, advanced toward the hostile emplacement firing his automatic rifle. Disregarding the intense enemy fire, he maneuvered close to the enemy emplacement and killed its occupants. In the course of this, a second enemy bunker commenced firing on the friendly elements and again Corporal Galindo advanced through the hail of enemy fire and killed the hostile personnel. His courageous actions enabled his unit to continue its advance and secure the objective with a minimum of casualties. The gallantry in action displayed by Corporal Galindo on this occasion reflects great credit upon himself and the military service.
