The President of the United States of America, authorized by Act of Congress July 9, 1918, takes pleasure in presenting the Silver Star to Corporal Gene C. Gaiser (ASN: US-55148728), United States Army, for gallantry in action as a member of 2d Signal Company, 2d Infantry Division, in action against an armed enemy on 20 July 1952 in the vicinity of Chorwon, Korea. On that date Corporal Gaiser volunteered to lay wire to Company K of the 23rd Infantry Regiment, which was making an assault on “Old Baldy”. Corporal Gaiser, then a wire team chief, lead his men through extremely heavy small arms, mortar and artillery fire to complete his mission. Although wounded, he remained with his men rendering such assistance as he could, until the wire line was completed. He was then wounded the second time while returning to his unit. The gallantry in action displayed by Corporal Gaiser during the attack on “Old Baldy”, will long be remembered by his comrades and is in keeping with the highest traditions of the military service.
