The President of the United States of America, authorized by Act of Congress July 9, 1918, takes pride in presenting the Silver Star (Posthumously) to Private First Class Wirt C. Fuller (ASN: RA-15279890), United States Army, for gallantry in action as a member of the Medical Detachment, 555th Field Artillery Battalion, 25th Infantry Division, in action against an armed enemy in Korea. On 12 August 1950, near Pangam-ni, Korea, Private First Class Fuller was serving as a battery Aidman during a strong hostile attack. Despite exposure to heavy machine gun fire, he advanced through the intense barrage and reached a wounded man who was lying beneath an ammunition truck. As he administered first aid to his wounded comrade, the trick was ignited by a bursting grenade. Resolutely, he attempted to move the man away from the blazing vehicle. Private First Class Fuller’s valorous actions are in keeping with the highest traditions of the military service and reflect great credit upon himself and the United States Army Medical Service.
