The President of the United States of America, authorized by Act of Congress July 9, 1918, takes pride in presenting the Silver Star (Posthumously) to Corporal Ervin Alvin Fricke (ASN: RA-39476640), United States Army, for gallantry in action as a member of Tank Company, 9th Infantry Regiment, 2d Infantry Division, in action against an armed enemy on 27 November 1950 in the vicinity of Kujang-dong, Korea. Corporal Fricke, a tank driver, was a member of a force attempting to force an enemy roadblock. As his tank, which was loaded with wounded, neared the hostile positions, it was brought under heavy fire several wounded personnel were wounded again in the fierce action and all were forced to abandon the tank. With complete disregard for his personal safety, Corporal Fricke exposed himself to the deadly hail of enemy fire and began to render first aid to his comrades. In spite of the constant small arms fire striking all about him, he continued to administer to the wounded and, as other elements of his company broke through the roadblock, he was seen assisting the wounded from the area to friendly lines. The gallantry and selfless devotion to his comrades displayed by Corporal Fricke reflect great credit upon himself and the military service.
