The President of the United States of America, authorized by Act of Congress July 9, 1918, takes pleasure in presenting the Silver Star to Sergeant Roy L. Foxworth, Jr. (ASN: RA-14387323), United States Army, for gallantry in action as a member of Company G, 2d Battalion, 7th Infantry Regiment, 3d Infantry Division, in action against the enemy in Korea. On 21 July 1952, while Sergeant Foxworth and his squad were manning an outpost position known as “Kelly”, near Maktae-dong, Korea, they were attacked by a squad of enemy troops. The frenzied foe quickly overran the listening post and charged the main defensive positions but due to the alertness of the friendly force the enemy was repulsed with heavy losses. After regrouping his squad Sergeant Foxworth discovered that one of his men had failed to move back to the main defensive positions as the foe overran the listening post. Dispatching one of the men to the listening post, he soon reported back that a second squad of enemy troops had moved in and occupied the former friendly position. Immediately Sergeant Foxworth organized his squad and fearlessly led it in a counterattack against the enemy-held listening post, laying down such a lethal hail of small arms and grenade fire that the foe was forced to retreat from the outpost. The routing of the enemy enabled the missing man to leave the position in which he had taken cover to escape capture by the foe. Sergeant Foxworth’s gallantry and outstanding leadership reflects the highest credit upon himself and the military service.
