The President of the United States of America, authorized by Act of Congress July 9, 1918, takes pleasure in presenting the Silver Star to First Lieutenant (Infantry) Elden K. Foulk (ASN: 0-2019578), United States Army, for gallantry in action as a member of Company B, 9th Infantry Regiment, 2d Infantry Division, in action against an armed enemy on 18 May 1951, in the vicinity of Hwadont, Korea. At approximately 0400 hours on that date his company was moving to the aid of a hard-pressed friendly unit. Although several enemy groups attempted to delay or trap the company, Lieutenant Foulk, displaying outstanding tactical skill, deftly deployed his men in such a manner that the company suffered no casualties. When a particularly fanatical enemy force attacked the column, Lieutenant Foulk fearlessly exposed himself to heavy enemy fire while aggressively engaging the enemy with his individual weapon. His deadly accurate fire completely disrupted the enemy force, killing several and routing the remainder. When the company finally reached its objective, he personally supervised the evacuation of several wounded friendly troops. The outstanding heroism and dauntless courage of Lieutenant Foulk reflect great credit upon himself and the military service.
