The President of the United States of America, authorized by Act of Congress July 9, 1918, takes pleasure in presenting the Silver Star to Corporal Mike J. Foster (ASN: RA-19358963), United States Army, for gallantry in action as a member of Company A, 38th Infantry Regiment, 2d Infantry Division, in action against the enemy on 28 July 1951 in the vicinity of Taeusan, Korea. On that date Company A spearheaded an attack against a well fortified enemy-held hill. When the unit’s advance was halted by intense enemy grenade and automatic weapons fire, Corporal Foster placed his machine gun and inflicted heavy fire on the hostile positions. In accomplishing this mission he repeatedly exposed himself to enemy observation and intense fire. When the order was given for the company to withdraw, Corporal Foster remained in position and covered the withdrawal of his men to defensive positions. The gallantry and devotion to duty demonstrated by Corporal Foster on this occasion reflect great credit upon himself and the military service.
