Headquarters, 2d Infantry Division, General Orders No. 64 (October 13, 1950)

The President of the United States of America, authorized by Act of Congress July 9, 1918, takes pleasure in presenting the Silver Star to Master Sergeant Jason E. Forney (ASN: RA-20227061), United States Army, for gallantry in action as a member of Headquarters, 2d Battalion, 38th Infantry Regiment, 2d Infantry Division, in action against an armed enemy on 2 September 1950, in the vicinity of Naktong-Ni, Korea. On the afternoon of 2 September 1950, while stationed at an advanced observation post under direct observation of the enemy, Sergeant Forney observed and directed fire on enemy positions despite intense enemy mortar and artillery fire. During the course of the offensive action the armored vehicles attached to his battalion expended all ammunition and were being forced to withdraw from the action due to total lack of ammunition. With utter disregard for personal safety, he left the comparative safety of his position and dashed through the intense automatic weapons fire to effect redistribution of ammunition from tanks disabled by enemy anti-tank fire. Through his disregard for personal safety, the armored vehicles were able to continue their mission without having to withdraw for ammunition re-supply, thereby contributing to the final successful outcome of the battle. Sergeant Forney’s gallantry and devotion to duty reflect great credit upon himself and the Armed Forces of the United States.
