The President of the United States of America, authorized by Act of Congress July 9, 1918, takes pride in presenting the Silver Star (Posthumously) to Master Sergeant Isaac Daniel Ford (ASN: RA-34651035), United States Army, for gallantry in action as a member of Company G, 2d Battalion, 15th Infantry Regiment, 3d Infantry Division, in action against an armed enemy in Korea. During the early morning hours of 3 April 1953, Company G, 2d Battalion, of which Sergeant Ford was a member, was defending its positions on Outpost “Harry”, in the vicinity of Surang-ni, Korea. When the outpost was subjected to an intense assault by enemy forces, a hostile grenade was thrown into the company command post, seriously wounding Sergeant Ford. Despite his wounds, he accurately fired his carbine and mortally wounded the enemy soldier who had thrown the grenade. Although wounded a second time, he remained standing guard at the entrance to the command post until he was ordered to be evacuated. Sergeant Ford died en route to the aid station of the wounds sustained while performing the heroic act. As a result of his actions, the lives of several friendly soldiers were saved and they were enabled to continue operations of the command post. Sergeant Ford’s outstanding gallantry and devotion to duty reflects great credit upon himself and the military service.
