    The President of the United States of America, authorized by Act of Congress July 9, 1918, takes pleasure in presenting the Silver Star to Lieutenant Colonel (Infantry), [then Major] Robert C. Forbes (ASN: 0-24511), United States Army, for gallantry in action while serving with Headquarters, 1st Battalion, 255th Infantry Regiment, 63d Infantry Division, in action on 4 March 1945, in the vicinity of Bubingen, Germany. During a battalion attack against strongly defended enemy positions, one company commander was killed and both forward companies were halted by heavy enemy fire. Colonel Forbes, battalion commander, left his observation post and personally took command of the leading company. Under his leadership, the battalion moved forward and took the objective, killing ninety of the enemy, wounding ninety and capturing sixty-seven. Colonel Forbes’ outstanding courage and devotion to duty in the face of enemy fire are in keeping with the finest traditions of the Armed Forces of the United States.
