Headquarters, 2d Infantry Division, General Orders No. 733 (November 18, 1951)

The President of the United States of America, authorized by Act of Congress July 9, 1918, takes pleasure in presenting the Silver Star to Sergeant Oliver O. Foglesong (ASN: RA-15229578), United States Army, for gallantry in action as a member of Company B, 38th Infantry Regiment, 2d Infantry Division, in action against the enemy on 27 July 1951 in the vicinity of Kongnae, Korea. On this date while advancing upon a well-fortified enemy-held hill, Sergeant Foglesong’s squad was pinned down by intense hostile small arms, automatic weapons and grenade fire. In this encounter his machine gunner was wounded. With friendly casualties mounting, Sergeant Foglesong ordered his squad to withdraw while he operated the machine gun and employed a heavy base of covering fire upon the enemy. He continued this action, inflicting numerous casualties upon the enemy until his comrades had reached safety. He then rejoined them and, upon reorganizing his men, led them in a successful counterattack upon the hostile positions. The gallantry in action and devotion to duty displayed by Sergeant Foglesong on this occasion reflects great credit upon himself and the military service.
