The President of the United States of America, authorized by Act of Congress, July 9, 1918, takes pride in presenting the Distinguished Service Cross (Posthumously) to Private First Class Ernest Hugo Anderson (ASN: 2273765), United States Army, for extraordinary heroism in action while serving with Company F, 1st Gas Regiment, American Expeditionary Forces, near Moulin de Guenoville, France, 26 September 1918. Private Anderson, with three other soldiers, advanced nearly 200 yards over an open hillside exposed to machine-gun fire and carried two wounded men to the protection of a nearby trench. Private Anderson has since been killed in action.
