The President of the United States of America, authorized by Act of Congress, July 2, 1926, takes pleasure in presenting the Distinguished Flying Cross to First Lieutenant (Air Corps) Vincent R. Zdanzukas (ASN: 0-417388), United States Army Air Forces, for extraordinary achievement while participating in aerial flight as bombardier of an airplane which was credited with either seriously or damaging or totally destroying a Japanese naval vessel with four direct hits off Bougainville, Solomon Islands, on 28 September 1943, despite the difficulties of attack in darkness and the hazards of intense anti-aircraft fire.
