The President of the United States of America, authorized by Act of Congress July 9, 1918, takes pride in presenting the Silver Star (Posthumously) to Master Sergeant Horrie Flowers, Jr. (ASN: RA-14006120), United States Army, for gallantry in action as a member of Headquarters and Headquarters Company, 3d Battalion, 25th Infantry Division, in action against an armed enemy in Korea. On 30 November 1950 near Kunu-ri, Korea, hostile elements infiltrated to the battalion area where preparations were being made to move vital supplies and equipment. Quickly organizing a small group of volunteers to combat the enemy force, Master Sergeant Flowers directed safe removal of ammunition trucks and several other vehicles. Although fatally wounded during the intense fight, he refused evacuation until all trucks had been withdrawn and the infiltrating force eliminated. He later succumbed to the wounds received during this action. Master Sergeant Flowers’ courageous leadership and inspiring devotion to duty reflect great credit upon himself and uphold the highest traditions of the United States Army.
