The President of the United States of America, authorized by Act of Congress, July 9, 1918, takes pleasure in presenting the Distinguished Service Cross to Sergeant First Class Charles L. Anderson (ASN: 1869638), United States Army, for extraordinary heroism in action while serving with 306th Field Signal Battalion, 81st Division, American Expeditionary Forces, near Haudiomont, France, 10 November 1918. Sergeant Anderson worked incessantly during a very heavy enemy barrage, keeping up the lines of communication between the regiment and battalions in the field. He was often buried in debris and knocked down by shell explosions, and was both wounded and gassed, but bravely continued his work.
