The President of the United States of America, authorized by Act of Congress July 9, 1918, takes pride in presenting the Silver Star (Posthumously) to Sergeant Paul E. Flora (ASN: RA-16336090), United States Army, for gallantry in action while serving with Company F, 2nd Battalion, 27th Infantry Regiment, 25th Infantry Division, in action against the enemy. On 12 September 1951, near Hagamnyong, Korea, Sergeant Flora’s company was engaged with a well-entrenched hostile force. As the increasing intensity of enemy fire halted the attack, he quickly deployed his men to establish a base of fire and then, with another soldier, moved to a forward vantage point where they could place accurate concentrations on the hostile emplacement. After neutralizing the point of resistance with accurately thrown grenades, he again returned to the unit to assist in the evacuation of wounded comrades. Repeatedly exposing himself to the heavy barrage, he moved throughout the area rendering first aid until a sudden burst of enemy machine gun fire fatally wounded him. Sergeant Flora’s courageous leadership, persistent aggressiveness and selfless devotion to duty are in keeping with the greatest traditions of the American soldier.
