The President of the United States of America, authorized by Act of Congress July 9, 1918, takes pleasure in presenting a Bronze Oak Leaf Cluster in lieu of a Second Award of the Silver Star to Master Sergeant Alfred D. Fisher (ASN: RA-17192292), United States Army, for gallantry in action as a member of Headquarters, 1st Battalion [then Company C], 9th Infantry Regiment, 2d Infantry Division, in action against an armed enemy from 15 to 16 August 1950, in the vicinity of Yongsan, Korea. During that period his company was defending terrain which overlooked the Main Supply Route. During the night of 15 August 1950, and the early morning hours of 16 August 1950, the company was subjected to five fanatical attacks by a determined and numerically superior enemy force. During the first attack the heavy weapons platoon sergeant was seriously wounded, and Sergeant Fisher, without hesitation, immediately assumed command of the platoon. Fearlessly exposing himself to intense enemy fire, he systematically checked his personnel and weapons. Discovering that one machine gun was idle due to the serious casualties of the section, he quickly administered first aid and moved wounded men to safety. Then he returned to the gun position and delivered effective and deadly fire upon the enemy as they resumed the attack. During one particularly savage attack Sergeant Fisher received a wound below one eye. Disregarding this painful wound he continued to place devastating fire upon the enemy, inflicting numerous casualties, until the attack was repulsed. The courage, tenacity and inspiring leadership displayed by Sergeant Fisher reflect great credit upon himself and uphold the highest traditions of the Military Service of the United States.
