The President of the United States of America, authorized by Act of Congress July 9, 1918, takes pleasure in presenting the Silver Star to Private First Class Morris A. Ferry, United States Army, for gallantry in action as a member of Company L, 3d Battalion, 15th Infantry Regiment, 3d Infantry Division, in action on 22 March 1945, near Hebeischweller, Germany. Private Ferry, leader of a small patrol sent out to locate enemy armor, left his patrol and ran to within 50 yards of an enemy Mark IV tank to kneel and fire his bazooka. The machine gun on the enemy tank showered bullets all round him, but he held his position and fired carefully, hitting the tank and forcing nit to withdraw. Private Ferry, by his audacious action, held off the enemy tank until his own armor could cross a ditch and move forward. His gallant actions and dedicated devotion to duty, without regard for his own life, were in keeping with the highest traditions of military service and reflect great credit upon himself and the United States Army.
