The President of the United States of America, authorized by Act of Congress July 9, 1918, takes pleasure in presenting a Bronze Oak Leaf Cluster in lieu of a Second Award of the Silver Star to Major General Claude Birkett Ferenbaugh (ASN: 0-12479), United States Army, for gallantry in action while serving as Commanding General of the 7th Infantry Division, in action against the enemy at Habangim, Korea, on 25 February 1951. While visiting one of his front line battalions, Major General Ferenbaugh repeatedly exposed himself unflinchingly to heavy enemy small arms, automatic weapons, and mortar fire, thus inspiring his hard-pressed troops to greater effort. His actions contributed in great measure to the successful accomplishment of the battalion’s mission. The gallant actions and dedicated devotion to duty demonstrated by Major General Ferenbaugh, without regard for his own life, were in keeping with the highest traditions of military service and reflect great credit upon himself and the United States Army.
