The President of the United States of America, authorized by Act of Congress July 9, 1918, takes pleasure in presenting the Silver Star to Major Michael K. Fenlon, British Indian Army, for gallantry in action in Italy on 11 October 1944. Commanding the 2d Battalion, 10th Gurkha Rifles during the bitter fighting to gain control of the precipitous slopes of Monte Del Frta, Major Fenlon led his men in an assault upon this vital objective, and displaying outstanding tactical ability not only completely annihilated the enemy, but laid plans for the successful advance beyond this point. Throughout this action, by his complete disregard for his personal safety, Major Fenlon was an inspiration to his men and reflected the highest credit upon himself and the military service.
