The President of the United States of America, authorized by Act of Congress July 9, 1918, takes pleasure in presenting the Silver Star to Private First Class Ray E. Fasick (ASN: US-52111252), United States Army, for gallantry in action as a member of Company I, 23d Infantry Regiment, 2d Infantry Division, in action against the enemy on 8 October 1951 in the vicinity of Yang-Jimal, Korea. On this date Private Fasick’s unit was assigned the mission of attacking and securing an enemy-held hill. In the ensuing fire fight the unit encountered stubborn resistance from a hostile bunker and its advance was temporarily halted. Fully realizing the dangers involved, Private Fasick secured an automatic rifle and crawled on his hands and knees toward the hostile position. Disregarding the intense enemy fire directed at him, he advanced to a position a few yards from the emplacement and, with devastating fire from his weapon, successfully annihilated its occupants. As a result of his courageous actions his unit was able to continue in the attack and accomplish its mission with a minimum of friendly casualties. The gallantry in action displayed by Private Fasick on this occasion reflects great credit upon himself and the military service.
