Headquarters, 2d Infantry Division, General Orders No. 613 (October 19, 1951)

The President of the United States of America, authorized by Act of Congress July 9, 1918, takes pleasure in presenting the Silver Star to Corporal Donald T. Farnham (ASN: RA-19367376), United States Army, for gallantry in action as a member of Company A, 1st Battalion, 23rd Infantry Regiment, 2d Infantry Division, gallantry in action against the enemy on 4 August 1951 in the vicinity of Hyon-ni, Korea. On this date during an attack on enemy positions, Corporal Farnham’s unit was forced to withdraw to more advantageous positions due to a numerically superior enemy force. During the withdrawal, Corporal Farnham, with complete disregard for his personal safety, placed his machine gun in an exposed position, in order to deliver effective fire at the onrushing enemy force. Despite the heavy volume of hostile fire directed at him, Corporal Farnham remained in his position, inflicting numerous casualties upon the enemy. His courageous actions enabled his unit to withdraw to positions of safety with a minimum of friendly casualties. The gallantry and devotion to duty displayed by Corporal Farnham reflect great credit upon himself and the military service.
