The President of the United States of America, authorized by Act of Congress July 9, 1918, takes pleasure in presenting the Silver Star to Major (Field Artillery) Julius B. Farley (ASN: 0-40226), United States Army, for gallantry in action as a member of Headquarters and Headquarters Battery, 8th Field Artillery Battalion, 25th Infantry Division, in action against an armed enemy in Korea. On 27 November 1950, near Ipsok, Korea, Major Farley’s artillery position was attacked by a strong force of infiltrating enemy. Despite exposure to a heavy concentration of small arms and automatic weapons fire, he moved throughout the position, supervised the deployment of his men, and coordinated their fire with such effect that the enemy was forced to withdraw. Major Farley’s courage, tactical skill and steadfast devotion to duty were an inspiration to his men and reflect great credit upon himself and uphold the highest traditions of the United States Army.
