The President of the United States of America, authorized by Act of Congress July 9, 1918, takes pleasure in presenting the Silver Star to Sergeant First Class Harvey C. Eversoll (ASN: RA-36612370), United States Army, for gallantry in action as a member of Company G, 38th Infantry Regiment, 2d Infantry Division, in action against an armed enemy on 12 September 1950, at An-Sin, Korea. On 12 September, Sergeant Eversoll was squad leader of a unit engaged in mopping-up operations. Upon contact with the enemy, he organized his squad with rapid dispatch and moved them in among the enemy, inflicting heavy casualties. Although wounded in the face by shrapnel from a hand grenade, he continued to lead his squad and killed many of the enemy at extremely close range. By his complete disregard for personal safety and cool action under close enemy contact, he maintained control of his squad and courageously led them forward until the completion of his mission. His indomitable courage in continuing to lead his squad, while suffering from serious wounds, was highly instrumental to the success of the mission which resulted in a total of 72 enemy dead without loss of a single man in his squad. The heroic gallantry displayed on this occasion by Sergeant Eversoll reflects great credit upon himself and is in keeping with the highest traditions of the military service.
