The President of the United States of America, authorized by Act of Congress July 9, 1918, takes pleasure in presenting the Silver Star to Master Sergeant Louis A. Evans (ASN: RA-35266400), United States Army, for gallantry in action as a member of the Medical Company, 15th Infantry Regiment, 3d Infantry Division, in action against an armed enemy in Korea. On 13 February 1951, near Suso-ri, Korea, a platoon from Company B was sent forward to occupy a critical terrain feature formerly held by another unit. As the platoon moved up the precipitous slopes of the hill, it came under deadly enemy machine gun fire, resulting in many casualties. A call was dispatched for medical aid. Sergeant Evans immediately volunteered to proceed to the platoon. With utter disregard for his personal safety, he moved openly through the withering hail of enemy fire to the positions of the wounded and administered first aid. Heedless of the great danger involved, he made numerous trips over the open terrain to carry blankets to the wounded who were stranded in the fire swept area. When the enemy fire had diminished somewhat, he fearlessly and heroically evacuated the wounded. His courageous actions undoubtedly resulted in saving the lives of many wounded personnel. The gallantry displayed by Sergeant Evans reflects great credit upon himself and the military service.
