Evans (ASN: 7024992), United States Army, for gallantry in action at Fort Mills, Philippine Islands, while serving with the 60th Coast Artillery (Anti-Aircraft) Regiment, on or about 15 March 1942. When a comrade was wounded and in need of treatment during a heavy enemy artillery bombardment, Sergeant Evans left his place of safety and with a companion commandeered a truck.
