The President of the United States of America, authorized by Act of Congress July 9, 1918, takes pride in presenting the Silver Star (Posthumously) to Private First Class George William Enos (ASN: RA-12318107), United States Army, for gallantry in action as a member of Company L, 3d Battalion, 23d Infantry Regiment, 2d Infantry Division, in action against an armed enemy on 15 September 1950 in the vicinity of Kang-ni, Korea. On the afternoon of that date he was a member of a platoon on a patrol with the mission of determining enemy strength and disposition. When enemy machine gun fire pinned down the members of the platoon, he crossed approximately fifty yards of open terrain, with utter disregard for his personal safety, and made a frontal assault on the enemy position. He succeeded in killing four out of five of the enemy in the emplacement before he was killed by enemy fire as he reached the edge of the enemy position His prompt and unhesitating action enabled his platoon to accomplish its mission, and undoubtedly saved the lives of many of his comrades. The gallant and selfless act of Private Enos in sacrificing his life to save the lives of others reflects the highest great upon himself is in keeping with the fine traditions of the military service.
