Headquarters, 2d Infantry Division, General Orders No. 879 (December 27, 1951)

The President of the United States of America, authorized by Act of Congress July 9, 1918, takes pride in presenting the Silver Star (Posthumously) to Private First Class Edward Reinold Enders (ASN: US-52101144), United States Army, for gallantry in action as a member of Company L, 38th Infantry Regiment, 2d Infantry Division, in action against the enemy on 3 September 1951 in the vicinity of Mandeau-san, Korea. On this date Company L was under constant attack by a numerically superior enemy force. The enemy made numerous attempts to break-through the friendly lines. Private Enders, with complete disregard for his personal safety and the intense hostile fire, met the brunt of the assault and fearlessly engaged the enemy. His intense and accurate fire coupled with selfless heroism aided immeasurably in repulsing the attack and were responsible for the many casualties suffered by the enemy. Through his act of bravery friendly forces were able to defend their positions successfully with a minimum of casualties. The gallantry in action and devotion to duty displayed by Private Enders on this occasion reflects great credit upon himself and the military service.
