During the assault crossing of the Naktong River Master Sergeant Easterling’s platoon, manning the assault boats, was held up by intense enemy fire. With utter disregard for his own safety he advanced through a hail of fire, With utter disregard for his own safety he advanced, through a hail of fire, to the forward elements where he directed the loading and launching of the boats When a beachhead had been established he learned that the troops on the far shore required air identification panels. Again, heedless of the intense fire, he exposed himself and returned across the open beach to secure the sorely needed panels. During the entire operation he remained exposed to the enemy’s fire directing his platoon’s activities and aided materially in the successful accomplishment of hits vital mission. The gallant actions and dedicated devotion to duty demonstrated by Master Sergeant Easterling, without regard for his own life, were in keeping with the highest traditions of military service and reflect great credit upon himself and the United States Army Engineer Corps.
