The President of the United States of America, authorized by Act of Congress July 9, 1918, takes pleasure in presenting the Silver Star to Warrant Officer, Junior Grade Ralph E. Dusseau, Jr. (ASN: W-906710), United States Army, for gallantry in action as a member of Company B, 23d Infantry Regiment, 2d Infantry Division, in action against an armed enemy on 11 September 1950 in the vicinity of Changnyong, Korea. On that date his company was subjected to three separate attacks and enemy snipers had succeeded in infiltrating to a point within the company’s perimeter. After repelling the second enemy assault, the company ran dangerously low on ammunition. Immediately Warrant Officer Dusseau organized a carrying party and under intense hostile artillery, mortar, and small arms fire, led the way to the rear to procure ammunition. En route back to the lines with the ammunition it was found that enemy snipers within the unit’s perimeter had cut off the route of return. Ordering his detail to drop their ammunition, Warrant Officer Dusseau led them in an attack against the enemy riflemen, and after eliminating all enemy resistance continued on to the company’s defensive positions. The re-supply of the vitally needed ammunition prevented the enemy from overrunning the company and was instrumental in the successful defense of the company’s position. The gallantry displayed on this occasion by Warrant Officer Dusseau reflects great credit upon himself and the Armed Forces of the United States.
